Mandeigh Wells
The Hand That Holds the Brush...

Mandeigh is a figurative painter currently based in Scotland.
A storyteller in paint, Mandeigh has an Irish/Scots heritage leaning very naturally to archetype, mythology and those liminal spaces between worlds.
Her current body of work is Portals Divine. It's held in sacred imagery and quiet intensity. It circles polarity and wholeness without forcing a conclusion.
She is frequently accompanied in the studio by two gorgeous ex racing greyhounds, and many cups of tea...

About the work...

Working in oils, often at a scale where a figure starts to feel like a presence in the room these pieces are not simply for decoration.
In a style that could best be described as mythic realism, each piece is a narrative. They are not neat stories with a beginning and an end, but the older kind that echos archetype, instinct...remembrance.
The work rarely starts as a neatly devised concept. It starts as a thought, a dream, a conversation, a moment that won’t let go.
Certain symbolism returns, though not always by intention. Colours, creatures, the red thread, all doorways. That threshold feeling when something is about to shift.
These aren’t portraits. They’re presences. You don’t have to decode them or even understand them. You just have to stand still long enough to witness them, and maybe, they'll witness you back...
Welcome to the studio...follow the red thread and come on in...
